Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge visited Newham Ambulance Station in East London yesterday to speak to ambulance staff and paramedics about their experiences working throughout the pandemic. The pandemic has made recent months one of the most challenging times in the London Ambulance Service’s history.
As part of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's visit, they spoke to paramedic Jay Khan. As revealed in the caption of a recent official Kensington Royal Instagram post, the Cambridges heard about how Jay has coped with ‘the pressures of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic’, as well as about the ‘impact of having to isolate from her family.’
The post includes two photographs taken during the visit, the first of which shows Prince William and Duchess Catherine waving hello to the screen of Jay’s phone. As reported in The Times, Jay asked the couple if it was okay to call her father Abu in Bangladesh. He has been separated from his family since lockdown.

“You must be very proud of your daughter,” Prince William reportedly said to Abu, to which he replied: “Yes, we are all very proud of her.”
According to The Times, the royal couple also spoke to Jay’s sister Nasrin and grandfather Baharam in the UK.
“She works very hard and she’s looking forward to seeing you soon,” the Duke of Cambridge told them.
Whilst Duchess Catherine said: “Hopefully it won’t be too long before you can all meet up and see each other again.”
The caption of the Kensington Royal Instagram post about this important visit also revealed how the Duke and Duchess and The Royal Foundation have all worked to support those working on the front line.
It stated: ‘The London Ambulance Service has received funding from @nhscharitiestogether, of which The Duke and Duchess are joint Patrons, to enable them to continue to run their fleet of Wellbeing Tea Trucks ☕ which provide hot drinks, snacks and the chance to have a break for staff and volunteers.
'Over the last year, The Duke and Duchess and The Royal Foundation have worked to support those working on the frontline of the pandemic, including through the provision of grants to ten leading charities at the heart of mental health and frontline support as part of a bespoke COVID relief fund’, it powerfully concluded.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have regularly spoken of their support for all frontline workers and medical staff during this exceptionally difficult period.
