Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan could encounter issues with their security after they step down as senior royals next month.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been living over in Canada after making their shock announcement back in January that they plan to step back as senior royals.

The couple revealed that they plan to split their time between North America and the UK, and have since been living with son Archie on the secluded Vancouver Island.

In recent weeks, it was confirmed that the pair will be formally stepping down as senior members of the Royal Family from the 31st March, when they will undergo a 12-month review period of their new status.

And Canadian officials have now spoken out and said that, following the couple’s status change the government will no longer provide security for the family.

Mary-Liz Power, a spokeswoman for Canada's public safety minister, said, "The assistance will cease in the coming weeks, in keeping with their change in status."

Security had been provided for the couple since their arrival in Canada back in November by Royal Canadian Police, as the Sussexes had been considered “internationally protected persons" who were due security measures under international treaty.

However, now that they are to step back as senior royals from the end of March, they are no longer warranted the protection.

The Duke and Duchess revealed back in January that they plan to ‘work to become financially independent’.
