A royal commentator has claimed that “no-one else” can diffuse the aftermath of Prince Harry and Meghan’s shocking Oprah interview “better" than the Queen.
- Following Prince Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview airing, Buckingham Palace issued an official statement in response.
- It’s now been claimed that there is also great public respect for the fact that the Queen “chooses her words carefully” as she responded to the claims made.
- In other royal news, Kate Middleton’s kind gesture during a recent visit that almost went unnoticed is revealed.
The Queen’s response to her grandson Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s Oprah interview was considered by some to be something that was “carefully and constructively” handled. It was previously suggested the monarch had not been given an advance copy of the astonishing “tell-all” interview prior to it being broadcast.
During their conversation with Oprah, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan made a series of shocking revelations. This included Meghan’s claim that an unnamed member of the Royal Family made comments about their son Archie’s skin color before he was born. Whilst Prince Harry suggested Prince Charles and Prince William were “trapped” in the royal institution, something some have since said was not his "place to say”.
Days after the interview aired, the palace issued an official statement which declared: ‘Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
'Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.'

What could the Queen’s response to Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview suggest?
Speaking in an episode of The Telegraph’s Royal Insight video series, royal commentator and Associate Editor Camilla Tominey described the statement as “61 words in the Queen’s name, very carefully thought-out and written”.
Camilla went on to suggest that this was the “waving of a white flag - and it worked”, as she revealed that until others started to speak about Harry and Meghan more personally following the interview, it almost “cut that story stone dead” and did “draw a line” under it.
She also discussed how the Queen was responding, despite not being at the “center of these allegations”, after Harry and Meghan made their respect for her clear during their Oprah interview.

“No-one else can diffuse better than HM and that’s why these words come from her,” Camilla explained. “There’s respect, not only for the fact that she chooses her words carefully, but also because this is a 94-year-old woman of great experience who at the end of the day might be Head of State, but is also a great-grandmother dealing with a family crisis.”
“In many respects, it’s when the Queen has stepped forward and showed this kind of emotion that she’s endeared herself to the nation even more,” Camilla explained.
It’s not yet known when the couple might next see Her Majesty. Though it’s thought that Prince Harry will reunite with his brother Prince William later this year for the unveiling of a memorial statue to Princess Diana.
