Kate Middleton and Prince William are helping the Queen connect with a younger generation, according to a royal expert

A royal expert has claimed that Kate Middleton and Prince William are key to the royal family in a bid for the younger generation to understand why they are so important. 

• Royal expert Dickie Arbiter believes the Christmas carol service this week showed the couple stepping up for the family.
• He also said these events are a great way to shine a light on the royal family for a younger generation.

The royal family was reunited publicly this week, for the first time in months, during a Christmas carol service that Kate Middleton and Prince William organized. Royal expert, Dickie Arbiter, who spoke to the Daily Mail, believes this is one example of how the couple is trying to bridge the gap for a new generation.

The royals revealed that the event was to pay tribute to, "organizations and unsung heroes who have pulled together and through acts of kindness helped others in the face of extraordinary challenges."

And although most would see the event as a fun festive activity, Arbiter believes it's something different, "It’s the third generation taking the lead—we’re living in a time, the Cambridge’s are the bridge within the monarchy."

The event was particularly moving as it was the first time that the family has been seen publicly united since the funeral of Prince Philip in April 2021. While Kate's red coat dress, by Catherine Walker, wowed fashion fans because of its bow detail and striking color.

Talking about the carol service, and the Duke and Duchesses other charitable and environmental causes, including the Earthshot Prize, Arbiter went on to say, "Young people know who the Queen is but they can't quite attune with someone so distant in terms of the age gap."

When you have people like the Cambridges, they act as a bridge between the young people and older generation."

The pair were joined for the Christmas Carol service at Westminster Abbey by other royals including Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Zara and Mike Tindall and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

The carol service was filmed and will be broadcast on Christmas Eve on ITV. However, Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly banned the BBC from airing it after the controversy surrounding their The Princes and the Press documentary. Called Together at Christmas, the concert will reflect on the challenges and celebrate small acts of kindness.
