A four-day bank holiday weekend will take place in June 2022 and many fans think that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are to thank for it.

• An extra bank holiday has been announced for 2022 to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
• Fans speculate that this announcement has been carefully timed due to Prince Harry and Meghan.
• This comes after Royal news that Prince Philip has left hospital two weeks after ‘successful’ heart operation

The Queen will celebrate 70 years on the throne in 2022 and to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, an additional bank holiday has been announced in the UK. The additional bank holiday will take place on Friday 3rd July. The holiday will be preceded by the Spring Bank Holiday which has been moved from May to Thursday 2nd June, resulting in a lovely four-day weekend at the beginning of June.

However, some fans think that this announcement may have links to the recent royal fiasco that has seen rifts form in the royal family following Prince Harry and Meghan's tell-all interview with Oprah.

One suspicious fan said on Twitter, “Last Monday the Royals are accused of being racist. This Monday they announce a four-day bank holiday for the Queen’s jubilee. The timing of the announcement feels very convenient. This feels a bit like when someone buys you flowers after being in the wrong.” Another Twitter commented on this announcement, “Timing is everything.”

Although some are dubious that this announcement's timing is deliberate. One Twitter user stated, "You might want to consider that the occasion marks a [70th] anniversary so the idea probably was not clobbered together within the last week." The announcement of the extra Bank holiday was first made in November 2020 and recently plans have got underway to schedule the big event.

Other social media users are already feeling more favourably about the Royal family since the announcement. One fan said, “Before we throw out the Royals, remember there's an extra bank holiday in 2022 for the Jubilee."

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said that this four day weekend will be a celebration of the Queen’s 70-year reign. "Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee will be a truly historic moment – and one that deserves a celebration to remember,” he said.

He continued to say, "We can all look forward to a special, four-day Jubilee weekend when we will put on a spectacular, once-in-a-generation show that mixes the best of British ceremonial splendour with cutting-edge art and technology. It will bring the entire nation and the Commonwealth together in a fitting tribute to Her Majesty's reign."

A government spokesperson raised expectations even further and said, “Spectacular moments in London and other major cities will be complemented by events in communities across the UK and the Commonwealth, allowing people to join together in celebration and thanks at a national and local level.”

He continued to say, “Plans for the Platinum Jubilee are being developed in conjunction with some of the UK’s leading creative minds, event organisers and world-class digital design companies. Using the talents of the UK’s cultural and creative sectors, the programme will engage young people from across the Commonwealth and use new technology in exciting ways.”
