The Duchess of Cambridge’s support for the NHS has taken a digital turn this week as reports suggest she spoke with nurses via video call on Tuesday.
- The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly undertook an important video call with NHS nurses on Tuesday 19 January.
- Duchess Catherine has been a Patron of the Nurses Now campaign since 2018.
- In other Royal News, the Queen sent a private message to President Joe Biden ahead of his inauguration.
The Duchess of Cambridge has long been a passionate advocate for the nursing profession and never has it been more vital than during the coronavirus pandemic. With the country now in its third lockdown, conducting royal visits in person is currently not possible.
So it seems that Duchess Catherine has taken things online this week, as the Court Circular is understood to have listed two significant engagements carried out by the Duchess on January 19. The Court Circular records every official engagement attended by the royals.
According to Express.co.uk, the Court Circular wrote that: ‘The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron, Nursing Now Campaign, this afternoon held a Meeting via video link with nurses from Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.’

Whilst it’s not known what was discussed in this private video link meeting, it’s thought that the Duchess will have been paying tribute to, and gaining more insight from, these dedicated nurses.
How does the Duchess of Cambridge support the NHS?
The Duchess first became a patron of Nursing Now in 2018, exemplifying her commitment to championing the need for support for healthcare professionals. Nursing Now is a worldwide campaign to improve health by raising the status and profile of nursing. Their site reports that, as of February 2020, they are now 587 Nursing Now groups active in 117 countries, with new groups registering and launching every month.

Ahead of last year’s International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, the Royal Family’s website shared an open letter Duchess Catherine had written to midwives across the country.
In it, she declared to our nation’s hardworking midwives: ‘You continue to demonstrate that despite your technical mastery and the advancement of modern medicine, it is the human to human relationships and simple acts of kindness that sometimes mean the most.'
It seems clear that the Duchess continues to support the work of nurses, doctors, and midwives throughout these challenging times.
What other meeting did Duchess Catherine have?
Tuesday's meeting with NHS nurses wasn't the only video meeting the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly conducted that day. Reports suggest the Court Circular also listed: 'Her Royal Highness later spoke to Holocaust Survivors and Holocaust Educational Trust’s Youth Ambassadors via video link.'

Last year marked 75 years since the end of the Holocaust and Duchess Catherine contributed to an exhibition marking this, taking heartfelt photographs of two Holocaust survivors and their grandchildren.
The exhibition brought together 75 images of survivors and their family members, one for every year since Auschwitz was liberated on 27 January 1945.
International Holocaust Memorial Day will take place on January 27, 2021.
