The sea liner is owned by the Environment Research Council (NERC) and operated by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), and will explore the Arctic and Antarctica for the next 25 to 30 years.
During the special event in Birkenhead, Merseyside, the pair were given a tour of the vessel and also met with apprentice engineers who worked on the building process.

The Duchess previously wore the elegant belted and collared coat back in 2016 as she celebrated the Air Cadet's 75th Anniversary at the RAF church of St Clement Danes.

She also stepped out in an almost identical Mulberry version of the ensemble for a royal visit to Belfast in 2017, sporting the same style of belt and buttons, this time featuring a classic shoulder cape aspect.
