Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, shares first ever royal selfie video to highlight personal message

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, filmed her very first selfie video to highlight the importance of Children's Mental Health Week.

• Having confessed to homeschooling her children, Catherine highlighted the need for parents and carers to look after their own wellbeing too

It's not often you see the royal family posting selfies, but Kate Middleton has broken the mold in her latest message.

Wearing a bobble hat and a Barbour jacket, the Duchess of Cambridge flipped the camera to selfie mode to mark the start of Children's Mental Health Week, which runs from 1st to 7th February.

Speaking candidly to the camera, the mum-of-three said, "This year's Children's Mental Health Week is all about expressing yourself—about finding creative ways in which to share your thoughts, ideas, and feelings. 

"So whether that's through photography, through art, through drama, through music or poetry—it's finding those things that makes you feel good about yourself."

With the covid-19 pandemic putting more pressure on people than ever, juggling work and homeschooling, the Duchess made it clear that parents must look inwards and ensure they are looking after their own mental wellbeing too.

She added, "And while this is Children's Mental Health Week there has never been a more important time to talk about parental wellbeing and mental health too. 

"Last year you told me just how important this was that many of us find it hard to prioritize. This is a hugely challenging time for us all so please look after yourself too. 

"Find those ways in which to share your thoughts and your feelings or find someone to talk to because we really do need to be the very best versions of ourselves for the children in our care."

The Duchess has been very open in the past about the struggles of parenthood and has even admitted suffering with mum guilt.

The family have stayed at Anmer Hall in Norfolk for the majority of the pandemic, and chose to stay there after Prince George and Princess Charlotte's school closed for the country's third lockdown.

Kate recently took part in a discussion about homeschooling and made a candid admission about how she's finding it. 

During the video call, the headteacher asked the participants to write down "one word that describes parenting during this pandemic’". 

Proving she's just like the rest of us, the Duchess held up the word "exhausting".
