Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is launching The Duchess of Cornwall's Reading Room, a book club to help people through lockdown.

Since the airing of season 4 of The Crown, Prince Charles and Camila have faced a surge of unrelenting online abuse. If you haven’t seen The Crown, where have you been? It’s a binge-worthy series but many have argued the accuracy and the royal family themselves have been angered by their portrayals.

Viewers became enraged at the portrayal of the marriage between Prince Charles and Princess Diana and as a result, took to social media to troll the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall.

Amidst the height of backlash following The Crown, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall had to deactivate comments on their Twitter page. The series focused largely on the famously unhappy marriage between Prince Charles and Princess Diana and shocked fans with the dramatized events that happened behind closed doors. The portrayal of Charles and Camilla’s affair was far from favorable which led to many worrying their public image was not tainted.

The 'Duchess of Cornwall's reading room'

Camila is now fighting back with a project close to her heart, a reading platform where you can see recommendations and inside talks with writers. Like an online book club, we all aspire to read more and maybe this could entice us.

Camilla has a love for books and is a patron to many literacy charities. She has been actively sharing the news of her project on social media, undeterred by hate she keeps receiving. With many now praising the Duchess on her public service.

The platform is called the ‘Duchess of Cornwall’s reading room’ and features her personal picks, she is the first royal to ever open a book club. It is part of her continued effort to reach out to the public during the pandemic. A source told Vanity Fair “We have seen her in a much more informal setting and that has given people a chance to get to know her a little better”
