Netflix is kicking off fall with an incredible lineup of shows and movies to keep everyone entertained. As the weather begins to cool down, it's time to get cozy on the couch and prepare for a month of new arrivals.
With the amazing news that Seinfeld is headed to Netflix next month and The Crown season 5 is also in the works there's already lots of exciting viewing to look forward to, but if you can’t decide what to watch in the meantime Netflix has a slew of fresh tv shows and films to pique your interest.
Netflix's September 2021 offering includes some classic movies that are sure to hit the spot when curled up on the couch along with some binge-worthy new shows. Here's what not to miss...
What's coming to Netflix September 2021?
Arriving September 1st, this fantasy film by The Jim Henson Company stars David Bowey and Jennifer Connelly on a journey of self-discovery. In the movie, a young girl named Sarah Williams, played by Jennifer, must travel through a maze to save her younger brother from the goblin king (played by David).
Cold Mountain (2003)
Available to stream September 1st, watch a young Jude Law play a Confederate soldier named W.P. Inman as he deserts his unit to return home to his love (played by Nicole Kidman). This 2003 movie also stars Renée Zellweger, Natalie Portman, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Donald Sutherland.
Freedom Writers (2003)
Tune in September 1st to see Hilary Swank in the 2003 film based on a true story. Hilary stars as Erin Gruwell, a teacher at a racially divided Los Angeles school who is tasked with teaching a class of at-risk students deemed "incapable" of learning. She assigns readings based on her students' lives and encourages them to keep a journal.
The late Chadwick Boseman stars in the 2017 biographical film on a young Thurgood Marshall and his time as a lawyer for the NAACP. Arriving September 1st, the film focuses on when a wealthy socialite, Eleanor Strubing (played by Kate Hudson), accuses black chauffeur Joseph Spell of sexual assault and attempted murder. From there, Chadwick's character takes on the criminal case with the help of Sam Friedman—a local Jewish lawyer who's never handled a criminal case.
Michael Keaton, Amy Ryan, and Stanley Tucci star in this drama coming September 3rd. The film follows Michael's character, lawyer Kenneth Feinberg, who battles cynicism, bureaucracy and politics while trying to help the victims of 9/11.
Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space (Season 1–Episodes 1 & 2)
Arriving September 6th, the four-part series looks to chronicle the SpaceX Dragon mission, Inspiration4, where four civilians travel into space for a three-day trip.
On The Verge (Season 1)
Coming September 7th, this drama follows four women as they navigate love, work, and a little bit of a midlife crisis in a pre-pandemic Los Angeles.
Untold Breaking Point (Vol. 1)
In the first of a five part docu-series debuting September 7th, follow U.S. tennis player Mardy Fish and the aftermath of his attempt to push through the mental strain of the 2012 U.S. Open quarterfinals. The series aims to explore the mental health struggles athletes endure.
Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali (2021)
Arriving September 9th, this documentary aims to retell the chance meeting turned tragic fallout between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. The "brotherhood" forged between the two lasted for three years before they ultimately became enemies.
Lucifer (Season 6)
Don't miss out on September 10th's premiere of the final season of Lucifer. Starring Tom Ellis as the devil Lucifer, follow him as he lives among humans and helps solve crimes with Los Angeles detective Chloe Decker (played by Lauren German).
Jack Whitehall: Travels with my Father (Season 5)

Get ready for another season of bad chefs attempting to recreate recipes in this competition show. The latest season will be hitting Netflix on September 15th.
Safe House (2012)
On September 16th, watch as Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington star as CIA agents who are on the run. The two must join forces to stay alive and figure out who wants them dead.
Love on the Spectrum (Season 2)
Returning September 21st, watch as seven individuals on the autism spectrum dive into modern dating and all the unpredictability that comes with relationships.
Monsters Inside: The 24 Faces of Billy Milligan (Limited Series)
Get ready to tune in on September 22nd for a chilling series. Based on true events, the limited series looks at the famous case of Billy Milligan who attempts to blame his felonies, including armed robbery and the rape of three women, on his multiple personalities.
Midnight Mass (Season 1)
In preparation for Halloween, this new supernatural series was made by the same people who brought you The Haunting of Hill House. The show takes place in a small town where the arrival of a new priest sparks sudden miracles, mysteries, and "renewed religious fervor to a dying town." If you're a fan of horror, then make sure to mark your calendar for September 24th.
The Starling (2021)
Premiering September 24th, The Starling by Theodore Melfi and written by Matt Harris stars Melissa McCarthy and Chris O'Dowd. Melissa plays a wife who after suffering a major loss is faced with a territorial bird that won't leave her garden alone.
The Comey Rule (Limited Series)
Politics fans can look forward to September 28th when Brendan Gleeson and Jeff Daniels take the screen as Donald Trump and James Comey. The drama miniseries will examine the relationship between the President and FBI agent during the first few months of Trump's presidency.
