We all have things that are important to us when we start a relationship, and Ruth Langsford is no exception. During a recent episode of Loose Women, the presenter revealed what hers was before agreeing to date her now-husband Eamonn Holmes

On Tuesday’s episode, Ruth Langsford revealed that she mentioned children early on in the relationship, as she knew she really wanted to have a family of her own.

She told her fellow panellists, “I always knew, before I even met Eamonn, you know in my grand plan of life, I saw myself as a mother, I wanted to have children.”

Ruth added, "So when I met him, and I obviously knew he had three children from his first marriage, I did [talk about children] really quickly. It was our second date."

Fellow panellist Janet Street-Porter appeared shocked by the confession, saying, “I can’t believe this! You know, you and Stacey [Soloman] just talking about it, it makes me feel anxious. Why?”

Stacey and Ruth laughed in response, with Ruth joking, “I didn't just sit him down and say 'Hi it's lovely to see you, I'll have a wine please, now - children!' But I kind of engineered the conversation.

"And if he'd have said 'no I don't want [anymore] children' I'd have totally understood. I would have said 'Do you know what, it's been lovely but let's not take this any further - because we're going to break each other's hearts'."

She added that she didn’t want to pretend she didn’t want them, and then end up not fulfilling her big life goal to become a mother.

Coleen Nolan told Ruth she could’ve lost the love of her life after that decision, to which Ruth replied, “That’s the risk you take, I might well have done.”

Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes did in fact welcome a child together in 2002 - their son Jack Holmes, who is now 17 years old.

The panellist told everyone that she was 42 when she gave birth to Jack.Eamonn has three children from his previous marriage to former wife Gabriella; Declan, Rebecca and Niall.
