Helen Mirren proves headbands are still cool as she makes hilarious quip at SAG Awards 2022

Recently admitting that she’s done “some pretty awful films”, Helen Mirren said she didn’t deserve a Lifetime Achievement Award, despite being “honored” by the Screen Actors Guild with this momentous achievement. Now Dame Helen has finally received her SAG Award and she did it in typically regal style…

Stepping out for the SAG Awards 2022 in Santa Monica on February 27th, she was pretty in pink and once again opted for her fashion staple. Last year Helen brought back a hair accessory most people already own when she rocked a knotted black-and-white check headband to the Cannes Film Festival. 

This time for the SAG Awards, the Oscar-winning actor wore a padded velvet headband that perfectly complemented her petal-pink Prada gown, as well as her matching purse and facemask. The spring-like pink tones of Dame Helen's outfit for the SAG Awards 2022 were truly breath-taking. She kept her accessories minimal but beautiful and really allowed the deep pink floral detailing across her left shoulder to really do the talking.

Though the star herself had something pretty hilarious to say as she candidly opened up to Live From E!, light-heartedly poking fun at herself as only Dame Helen can.

Discussing receiving the prestigious SAG Lifetime Achievement Award, she joked, “I'm very excited to be here. It's a very special evening for me. I just wish my guild wasn't called SAG. At my age, it's kind of, you know…”

“SAG Achievement Award?” she continued, smiling as she considered the abbreviation. “Yes, maybe I do deserve that.”

When asked what advice she’d give to her younger self in light of her many years of experience in the film industry, Dame Helen affirmed just why she believes it's so important to be “true to yourself”.

“Be true to yourself because in the end, that's all you have, is who you are, in the most truthful way,” she said. “Don't fight it, just be true to yourself.”
