Adele has suffered the loss of her estranged father, Mark Evans, who has died aged 57 after a battle with cancer.

The Grammy Award winning songstress has not commented publicly on her father’s death and she had a tough relationship with him throughout her life. Their bond is believed to have remained problematic towards the end.

Adele, whose full name is Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, and her mother Penny were left by Mark when the Hello singer was just three years old.

He returned to his home in Cardiff while Adele and her mom remained in North London.

Adele and Mark’s relationship faced more strain when he began sharing details of her life and his alcoholism in interviews, as she grew more famous.

“I was a rotten father at a time when she really needed me,” Mark told The Sun in 2011.

“I was putting away two litres of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day.

“I drank like that for three years. God only knows how I survived it. I was deeply ashamed of what I’d become and I knew the kindest thing I could do for Adele was to make sure she never saw me in that state.”

Mark also reportedly claimed that his daughter, who shares eight-year-old son Angelo with ex-husband Simon Konecki, struggled to find love because of “abandonment issues”.

Adele and Simon finalized their divorce earlier this year, after a two-year finance settlement battle and Adele was forced to use a mediator to split her $190million fortune.

Adele also admitted she didn’t love her father in her 2017 Grammy acceptance speech, telling her manager Jonathan Dickins that he was like a dad to her, when she won Record of the Year.

“Thank you to my manager because the comeback, as it were, was completely masterminded by him. And you executed it incredibly, and I owe you everything. We've been together for 10 years, and I love you like you’re my dad," she said in the iconic speech.

"I love you so, so much. I don't love my dad, that's the thing. That doesn’t mean a lot. I love you like I would love my dad.”

Adele recently marked her 33rd birthday with a rare post on Instagram, sharing three unseen photos of herself with fans.

She simply captioned the upload “Thirty Free”, giving a nod to her famous London accent and perhaps hinting at the freedom she is feeling since her divorce and stepping back from the spotlight of the music industry.

Adele last released music in 2015, with her smash hit album 25 and fans are desperate for another, with plenty responding to her birthday post begging to know when new songs are on the way.

One asked, “Is this the album announcement or...?”

“19...21...25...33??!! PLEASE,” another wrote, hoping that Adele will continue her streak of naming albums after her age.

“Where’s your album? I love you,” wrote another.
