Downton Abbey releases two official recipe books ahead of film

Downton Abbey

Have you ever found yourself envying the food and drink served at Downton Abbey? Thanks to two new books, you can make them at home and enjoy your very own feast.

Perfect for dinner parties, special occasions, or just ‘because’, the new books are available to pre-order now on Amazon. They will be released on 13th September, which is the same date as the upcoming Downton Abbey film.

The books were announced via the series’ official Twitter account, with accompanying images showing off the front covers. We know you shouldn’t really judge a book by its cover, but seriously, look at these.

According to the Amazon page, the cookbook “presents over 100 recipes that showcase the cookery of the Crawley household – from upstairs dinner party centrepieces to downstairs puddings and pies – and bring an authentic slice of Downton Abbey to modern kitchens and Downton fans.”

Executive producer and co-creator of Downton Abbey Gareth Neame introduces the cookbook, which features recipes grouped by occasion. Fans can enjoy either upstairs or downstairs recipes, depending on what you fancy.

It features popular recipes from 1912 and 1926, including Trout in Port-Wine Sauce, Chicken Vol-au-Vents, Beef Stew with Dumplings and a delicious gingerbread cake.

In a similar vein, the accompanying cocktail recipe book is described as an “official partnership with Downton Abbey and with 50 stunning photographs featuring stills from across the series and right up to the latest film release, this collection of 70 delicious cocktail recipes is a lavish toast to the glamorous world of the Crawleys.”

Writer and creator Julian Fellowes introduces the cocktail book, with recipes organised in the places the drinks are served. For example, The Library features after-dinner drinks and the Great Hall features party drinks.

If you’d prefer something more modest, turn to The Village for everyday drinks that are simple yet satisfying. Be warned, they’re very moreish.

If you can’t wait until the official release, the hardcover books can be pre-ordered in a bundle costing £35.19.
