Dame Mary Berry’s heartbreaking wish as she’s awarded honor at Windsor Castle
Dame Mary Berry now has the ‘most senior honor in the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’
Dame Mary Berry—at last the world-famous chef, baker, TV star and author of countless cookbooks takes on the most prestigious honor awarded to women by the British monarchy.
Although loyal fans continue to tune in to the Great British Bake Off 2021, many still miss the indomitable Mary's presence on the judging panel.
The legend of the culinary world is synonymous with classic, easy-to-follow recipes. From favorites such as Mary Berry's lemon drizzle traybake or her unbeatable fruity scones recipe, the original Great British Bake Off judge's extensive collection of books has long been a stalwart of every home-cook’s library.

Mary was made a Dame Commander by Prince Charles for her lifetime of cooking, writing and baking, at a ceremony in Windsor Castle.
Mary, who revealed in the past that her parents were ‘disappointed’ in her career choice, has previously said that the Damehood honor is bittersweet—for the most heartbreaking reason.
Following the ceremony, she said, "I'm extremely proud and honored. I just wish my parents were here—they're looking down and my children are quite excited."
The iconic chef then added the legacy she hopes to pass on. "My aim is to pass on the skill that I love so much, because everybody has to cook each day. Whether it's a student or whatever it is, you've got to feed yourself so why not learn to do it well and enjoy it."

ITV News reports that the leading cookery writer and broadcaster has published more than 50 books during a career spanning more than five decades and will be honored during a Windsor Castle investiture ceremony. Dame Mary, who's gained the name “Queen of Cakes” is also recognized for her extensive charity work.
This is in particular for her role as patron of Child Bereavement UK, a charity close to her heart as she lost her son in a tragic accident. Speaking during a Christmas special, which featured the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Mary Berry opened up about her heartbreaking personal tragedy.
Explaining her depth of compassion towards the Duke of Cambridge she said, “Prince William lost his mother at a very vulnerable age. And we lost our son, aged 19, in a car accident. So, we both know what it is to be without someone very special."
Her closeness to the royals isn't only relating to their trauma, as it appears that Dame Mary's books are an absolute favorite with the royal family. Back in 2019, Duchess Catherine revealed Prince Louis' first word was actually inspired by Mary Berry!
