What will Bridgerton season 3 be about?

The first of the Bridgerton books, The Duke and I, focused on the love story between Daphne Bridgerton and Simon, the Duke of Hastings. The second book, The Viscount who Loved Me, focused on the eldest of the Bridgerton siblings, Anthony Bridgerton, and his love story with Kate Sheffield (who was reimagined as Kate Sharma in the Netflix series).

It is therefore thought that the third book in the series, An Offer From a Gentleman, is set to be the focus of season 3 of the Netflix show. This season will focus on the second eldest Bridgerton brother, Benedict, and his romance with a woman named Sophie Beckett.

Bridgerton season 3 plot

While the show-makers of Bridgerton season three have taken creative liberties with the original text, they have been pretty faithful to the standard plot of the books. It is therefore thought that season three of Bridgerton starring Benedict and Sophie will have a Cinderella-style plot.

In the novel, Benedict and Sophie meet at a masquerade ball at the Bridgerton's home and the two hit it off instantly—despite the fact that Benedict has no idea about Sophie's true identity. Sophie leaves the ball early but leaves behind one of her gloves which Benedict then uses to try and track her down, but without success.

Years later the pair meet again after Benedict saves her from being assaulted and the two reconnect despite their differences in social status. Sophie then works for the Bridgerton family and after various misunderstandings and a shocking revelation about Sophie's identity, the pair end up married and happily ever after.

It is unclear if the Netflix series will stick to this format or whether they will once again stray from the original text in order to reinvigorate the script. In season one, fans were certain that Benedict would go on to explore his sexuality as he continued his artistic pursuits and became more open-minded than the repressed society around him.

In season two, however, Benedict's sole interest was in a nude model named Tessa as he entered into a heterosexual relationship. It's unclear if this fan theory will be explored by the writers or whether they will continue to stick with the conventions of the regency period and the original novel's plot.

When will Bridgerton season 3 be released?

Season one of Bridgerton was released on December 25, 2020, and season two was released on March 25, 2022, exactly 15 months later.

There were some production delays when it came to the creation of season two due to the global pandemic, so it is unclear what the typical turnaround time is for this elaborate regency program.

Netflix has yet to announce when the next season will air but fans can be certain that considering its warm reception from fans, they hopefully won't make us wait too long!
