Netflix’s Lupin is the show everyone’s watching right now - but what is it all about?

Netflix’s Lupin has rapidly become one of the most talked-about shows around right now as more and more viewers are drawn into the tense crime series. 

For those who might not yet have had time to watch, you’re in for a real treat. The French-language crime-drama is based on the Arsène Lupin novels by Maurice Leblanc and stars Omar Sy who some might recognize from the Hollywood blockbuster, Jurassic World. 

With only five episodes released so far, many viewers will already be eager for the release of Lupin Part 2. 

But what exactly is Netflix’s Lupin about and why should you watch it?

What is Netflix’s Lupin about?

Brilliant actor Omar Sy plays the lead role of Assane Diop in the Netflix crime drama. The character is inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s original suave “gentleman thief” Arsène Lupin who was also a consummate master of disguise.

In Leblanc’s books, Lupin is known for stealing from the rich to give to himself and for playing a cat and mouse game with detective Herlock Sholmes - a witty reference to Sherlock Holmes. 

In Netflix’s Lupin, Assane Diop is the son of a man who was framed for the theft of a valuable diamond necklace by his employer, powerful Hubert Pellegrini. Assane's father later died after this injustice. Now, an adult, Assane has drawn inspiration from his childhood fictional hero, Lupin. 

He has mastered the art of disguise and now plans on orchestrating a hugely ambitious heist. The ultimate goal, however, is revenge for his late father and exposing Hubert Pellegrini's crimes. 

As Lupin Part 1 approaches its tense conclusion, it seems that someone might be on the new so-called gentleman thief’s trail. But will they be able to catch him?

When will Lupin Part 2 be released?

The first season of the show is made up of ten episodes but split into two five-episode parts. The closing credits for the part one finale say that "another part is coming," but with so many questions left unanswered and a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers rounding off Part 1, fans are already eager for Lupin Part 2. 

But when it comes to the release date of the subsequent episodes, it seems nothing has yet been confirmed. Netflix is yet to announce the official release date for Lupin Part 2. Though it’s been suggested by some that if the two parts were filmed at the same time, fans might not have quite so long to wait and it might potentially land later this year. 

Once we finally have the answers we’ve been waiting for, it will then become a question of whether there might be a Lupin Series 2 in the future...
