Jamie Dornan reveals the last year has been 'brutal'—after his dad died of COVID-19 while the actor was in quarantine in Australia

Jamie Dornan has revealed how heartbroken he was when he heard his father had passed away last year—just as he was finishing his Australian quarantine to film The Tourist.

Jamie has had excellent reviews for the new BBC drama, The Tourist, where his character wakes up from a car accident with amnesia.

However, the actor, who lost his father last year due to Covid, has revealed how 'brutal' the last year has been for him and his family.

Jamie's father, Dr. Jim Dornan, passed away at the age of 73 after contracting Covid-19 last March. The renowned obstetrician and former professor, who was battling lymphocytic leukemia when he caught the deadly virus.

At the time Jamie had four days left of his Australian quarantine and was over there to begin filming the Tourist, so sadly missed the last days of his father's life.

Talking to The Sun newspaper, the Fifty Shades actor said, “It’s been a brutal time for lots of reasons and for lots of people. We’re all just trying to ride it out and come out the other side—and hope we’ve got our heads intact.”

The actor, who we're all hoping will return for series two of the Tourist, which is yet to be confirmed, also went on to say about his family, “I’m a father of three girls and at times I have to say goodbye to them.

“I think I have a real understanding of what it is to go away, often for the benefit of the family — to work, to provide. Every single step I do since becoming a father, my career is for them. That’s all I really care about. I’m so lucky that I have three healthy little girls. I’m just missing them so much.”

The former model turned actor, who also dated Keria Knightly is now married to Amelia Warner, a musician, and they have three children together. 

The BBC drama, The Tourist, was written by Jack and Harry Williams, who also wrote the recent ITV crime drama, Angela Black, as well as The Missing, the thriller is set in Australia and tells the story of a tourist with amnesia after he was hit by a lorry.
