Our Skims bra review has everything you need to know about the cult label. If you haven’t heard of Skims by now, we'd be surprised. A lingerie brand launched by Kim Kardashian in September 2019, the line produces simple, solution-focused underwear that looks just as good underneath clothes as it does without them.
Need a bra to suit a particular outfit or neckline? Skims has got you covered. In its extensive range, bust-boosting plunge and push-up bras sit alongside shaping T-shirt bras and impressively comfortable bandeaus. There are plenty of choices whether you sit in the wired or wire-free camp too. In this Skims bra review, we’ll be shining a spotlight on the Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette and the Fits Everybody Triangle Bralette (they're identical apart from the crossover front) to see if they might be the best bras for you.
To bring you a reliable Skims bra review, we wore ours while working, running errands and lounging around at home. Our review is a reflection of how much support we felt they offered, how comfortable they were to wear (even during an embarrassingly long Netflix binge) and whether we think they're worth parting with your hard-earned cash for.
Retailing at $32/£35 we’d class the Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette and the Fits Everybody Triangle Bralette as mid-range when it comes to price. They're on the expensive side for a bra that at first glance looks pretty simple, but as they're suitable for everyday, you'll quickly cut down your cost-per-wear. They can be purchased directly from the Skims website, or via retailers such as Net-a-Porter and Selfridges.
Skims bra review: First impressions
Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette
Material: 79% nylon, 21% spandex
With 2.8 million followers on Instagram, it’s fair to say there’s plenty of hype around the Skims brand. And for good reason. We were impressed by the brand’s commitment to inclusivity before our own bralettes had even dropped through the letterbox.
The Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette and Fits Everybody Triangle Bralette are available in sizes XXS to 4X, which is roughly equivalent to a 30A-44DDD. As for color options, instead of the traditional “one-size-fits-all” beige, there really is a tone to suit everybody, with eight different nude shades on offer, plus black.
As for the bralettes themselves, we were more than impressed with them too. The Crossover is apparently Kim’s personal go-to (which is why we chose it for our Skims bra review) in which case she has excellent taste. Both styles are soft, silky and lightweight—in short, everything you’d want from a bralette.
How does the Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette look?
Depending on how you categorise your bras, both the Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette and the Fits Everybody Triangle Bralette could either be described as a triangle bra or a bralette. There’s no padding or underwiring, which means they give your bust a natural shape, just with a little lift.
The minimal seams create clean lines beneath clothes and sit discreetly beneath even form-fitting pieces. As there isn’t any padding, the outline of your nipples may be visible through lighter T-shirts or tops—worth considering if you’re self-conscious about that kind of thing.
For a triangle-shaped bra, both offer a good amount of coverage. The cut of the fabric is generous at the sides on both, and the cross-over front on the crossover style stops you from spilling out.
How supportive is it?
If you’re looking for a bra that’s going to lift your bust right up and hold it firmly in place all day, then this isn't it. But, if what you’re after is gentle support that won’t leave welts in your shoulders by 5pm, then these may well be the bralettes for you.
As the straps and underband are relatively narrow and the design is free from wires, the bulk of the support comes from the super stretchy fabric and the double-layered cups. The inner lining is made from a soft mesh, which has slightly less give than the outer fabric and helps to hold your breasts in place.
The shoulder straps are adjustable, and there’s a choice of three hook and eye fastenings on the bank band, letting you easily alter the fit.
If you have a smaller chest, then either of these bralettes will provide enough support for all-day wear. If you’ve been blessed with a bigger bust, they would be better used as a lounge or sleep bra.
How comfortable is it?
Both the Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette and the Fits Everybody Triangle Bralette are seriously comfortable. We cannot stress that enough. Thanks to the softness of the fabric and minimal seams, there was no niggling, nor were there marks left on the skin when we took them off. Little touches, like a soft backing on the hook and eye fastening, make all the difference and highlight the brand’s attention to detail.
With a 21% spandex content, there’s enough stretch to live up to its “fits everybody” tagline. The fabric will either expand with your shape or shrink to fit it, depending on your body type.
Is it true to size?
We found that the Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette and Fits Everybody Triangle Bralette did come up true to size, but some online reviewers have commented that it comes up a little small. This could be as the sizing is quite tricky to navigate.
Instead of traditional bra sizing by back and cup size, there’s a choice of XXS-4X. According to the online size guide, these then equate to between three and six different cup sizes. For example, a size XL should fit someone who is a 38D, 38DD, 38DDD, 40A, 40B, and 40C. If you’re between sizes, we’d recommend ordering a couple around your usual size, so you can try different options at home.
Is it easy to care for?
The question of how to wash bras comes up time and again and is just as relevant to bralettes and soft bras. To maintain the integrity of the fabric of your Skims Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette or Fits Everybody Triangle Bralette, follow the instructions printed on the inside of the band and hand-wash on a cold cycle. Once clean, dry on a flat surface and don’t iron
What’s not so good?
We were really impressed and wouldn’t change anything about the design of the bra or its appearance. Our only gripe is the sizing and guide, which can be difficult to master, especially if you have a more unusual body shape.
Whether you're a Kardashian fan or not, it's almost impossible not to be impressed by the Skims offering. Both bralettes we tried as part of this Skims bra review delivered on fabric quality, fit and comfort.
