She is known for her love of a designer frock – as seen on the recent royal tour – but Meghan Markle sought out a trusty British brand for one of her latest outings.

Marks and Spencer appeared to be the first choice for the pregnant royal, who wore a chic little black dress by the retailer to the Festival of Remembrance with Prince Harry last weekend.

Even better, the Double Crepe Bodycon Dress is priced at £49.50, and – as of writing – it’s still in stock.

For the event held at the Royal Albert Hall by the Royal British Legion she paired the fitted LBD – which featured an elegant off-shoulder neckline and fell to just below her knees - with nude tights and black Manolo Blahnik heels.

However, it’s taken days for royal fans to decipher its provenance.

And it didn’t help that when she arrived the stylish frock was obscured by a black Stella McCartney coat.

After days of speculating, the team behind Twitter account @whatmeghanwore revealed the dress was from the reliable high street chain.

Sharing a picture of Meghan from inside the event, they wrote,“Confirmed, Meghan wore a @marksandspencer dress.”

On M&S’s website, where the super-affordable number is still available to buy in sizes 10 to 24 (6 and 8 have already been snapped up), the brand state that the, “design has been carefully crafted to flatter and stun”.

They continue, “Added stretch in the double crepe material helps it hug your curves, while the elegant off-shoulder neckline folds down the bust to create a truly stunning piece.”

There’s also a black zip fastening and the tailored dress comes fully lined.

What’s more, the dress is also available in red – just in time for Christmas.

While M&S recommend dressing it up with a red lip, Meghan teamed hers with natural make-up and a poppy pin, for the more sombre occasion on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

It seems other buyers of the dress are as pleased with their purchase as Meghan.

Leaving a review, one happy customer from Liverpool wrote, “Ordered this dress in red, so pleased with it and am really looking forward to wearing it.

“I’m a size 14 and the fit is perfect also the length is just right very flattering. Very good value.”

Another, from Chigwell in Essex, commented, “Very smart design, have another in a different colour, very pleased.”

A third, this time from Northumberland, added, “This is the best dress I have ever bought. I have the white one from a few months ago and couldn’t resist the red.

“The cut is super flattering and it doesn’t flash your bra. The length is perfect and fully lined for under £50!

“The material is fairly stout and good quality, it hangs beautifully and washes easily, barely needing an iron. Go on, treat yourself.”

We’ll be fans too if Meghan continues to take a leaf out of dedicated high street fan Catherine's book…
