Pierre Cardin, French fashion designer whose creations include the 60s 'bubble dress' has died aged 98.
His death was announced by France’s Fine Arts Academy on Twitter. It's understood Cardin’s family told Agence France-Presse he died in hospital in Neuilly, near Paris.
On their Instagram account, brand Pierre Cardin uploaded a photo of Pierre and captioned it with a single quote, which highlights his secret to longevity. He said, “I have always worked in my own style, which is different from all others. It was always my intention to be different, because that is the only way to last.”
Tributes from the world of fashion have been pouring in for the iconic designer who dressed many famous people including Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Jeanne Moreau and The Beatles.

What was Pierre Cardin famously known for?
He was well-known for his bold, space-age designs worn in the late 1950s. Pierre notably pioneered the little shift dress designed in orange, mauve and green and worn with PVC bonnets, gloves and thigh-high boots.
More recently he sold Pierre Cardin-brand goods in more than 140 countries on five continents.
Fellow French designers and figures from the fashion industry have taken to social media to pay tribute to the star.
Pierre was the head of Christian Dior’s tailoring atelier from 1947 to 1950. And Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones, the creative director of women’s collections and artistic director of men’s collections at Dior, respectively, honoured the late designer on the design house’s Instagram.
Kim Jones wrote, “To me, Pierre Cardin really looked to the future and formed the language for the modern landscape of fashion.”
Meanwhile other designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, Suzy Menkes and Anna Dello Russo also shared their tributes to the star - who had worked across theatre, arts, fashion and film in his career.
