Victoria Beckham: Fashion designer, mother-of-four, and with the launch of Victoria Beckham Beauty she can add make-up mogul to that list as well. But to many of us, she will always be Posh Spice.
It’s fair to say VB has spent the last decade or so trying to shake off her Spice Girls nickname in favour of an edgier high fashion persona, winning a firm fan in Duchess Megan Markle while she was at it.So imagine the industry's surprise when Victoria Beckham Beauty announced the launch of a very special lipstick collection called, you guessed it, Posh.
Victoria Beckham Beauty Posh Lipstick
The Posh Lipstick Collection comprises nine ultra-moisturising lippies. Eight of which are very VB neutrals in a variety of undertones to suit all skin tones, plus one classic punchy red.
Several of the shade names make a cheeky nod to Victoria's pop past including Spice, a mid tone ginger, Girl, a light neutral peach and Pout, a pale coral pink
As with every make-up launch by Victoria Beckham Beauty the emphasis is on ‘clean luxury.’ The creamy formula is infused with natural candelilla, jojoba and rose flower waxes, plus coconut and avocado oil to soften and repair dry lips.
The packaging is, well, as posh as you’d expect - a sleek tortoiseshell casewith a neat slimline bullet that makes applying a breeze.
But why resurrect Posh Spice now?
The lady herself revealed all in a series of Instagram posts, saying,
“I was given the name Posh in 1996 over lunch with Peter Loraine of Top of the Pops magazine and the rest of the Spice girls, I can’t say it was my first choice but ultimately I grew into it on my own terms. I was young and being Posh helped me find my style and confidence, and my voice.
After the Spice Girls, I distanced myself from the nickname because it had unwavering momentum of its own. I wanted to find my own direction. Now, years later I look back at that formative time with appreciation. Posh forever changed the course of my life, opening the door for me to go after my dreams.
This week I celebrate Posh with the launch of Posh Lipstick. It is deeply personal - lipstick has always given me confidence when I needed it and extra spice when I already had it. Each shade is inspired by a specific memory, and whilst the moments may have been my own, the energy and emotion is shared by us all.
This is an ode to our lifelong journeys of self discovery as women. Posh is back. xVB”
Well I can’t argue with that. Is anyone else feeling emotional all of a sudden?
The Victoria Beckham Beauty Posh Lipstick Collection includes:
- Pixi : pale peach nude
- Girl : light neutral peach
- Spice : mid-tone ginger
- Fringe : deep copper brown
- Pout : pale coral pink
- Sway : light berry pink
- Pose : mid-tone mauve
- Play : rich plum berry
- Pop: Victoria Beckham red
As woman&home's Senior Beauty Editor, Fiona Mckim has tried more products than she’s had hot dinners and nothing makes her happier than raving about a brilliant beauty find on womanandhome.com or her instagram grid (@fionamckim if you like hair dye experiments and cute shih-tzus)
Fiona joined woman&home as Assistant Beauty Editor in 2013, working under legend Jo GB, who taught her everything she needed to know about the industry (clue: learn about ingredients and employ extreme cynicism).
In a previous life, Fiona studied journalism back home in bonnie Scotland and honed her skills as a magazine features writer, with a brief and terrifying stint on the showbiz gossip pages of a tabloid newspaper in between. She's a skincare fanatic who can’t resist adding an extra step to her routine if it’s all the rage in Japan, loves fragrance, has fun with makeup and never turns down the chance to test a new hair tool. Basically, she loves it all.
When not slathering herself in self tan or squinting at a tiny ingredients list on a moisturiser, you’ll probably find Fiona enjoying something to do with food - cooking it, eating it, cajoling her friends into trekking across London to try a hyped pop-up in a dirty car park.
