What is The Tourist about?

It's recently been reported that Bafta-nominated Jamie Dornan will star in an upcoming BBC One, Stan, HBO Max and ZDF drama series called, The Tourist - an eerie thriller in the Australian outback.

According to BBC.co.uk, Jamie will play a "British man who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback, being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat-and-mouse chase unfolds and the man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive. Except he has no idea who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man's search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback."

The BBC also describe the show as having “off-beat black comedy” that “punctuates high-stakes action”, though “[a]t its heart however, is a story of self-discovery with a ticking timebomb underneath”.

And if that isn’t enough to get you on board, then perhaps Jamie Dornan’s reaction to the new show will. He may have played some pretty high-profile roles throughout his career, but it seems Jamie is particularly enthusiastic about this one.

BBC.co.uk report that Jamie Dornan said: “The Tourist are some of the most exciting scripts I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to go to Australia with such a talented group of people.”

Who else is in The Tourist cast?

Jamie will certainly be in good company in this gripping-sounding thriller series, as he is set to be joined by Hugo Weaving, of The Lord of the Rings fame, as well as Dumplin’ star Danielle Macdonald and Line of Duty’s Shalom Brune-Franklin.

Danielle and Hugo will both play law-enforcement; Hugo as Agent Lachlan Rogers, described by BBC.co.uk as “one of the most highly regarded detective inspectors in Australia” and Danielle as Probationary Constable Helen Chambers.

When will The Tourist be released?

If you’re already eager to watch this Australian-set drama unfold, then you’re probably not alone! It sounds seriously gripping, though it seems we will have to be patient, as it’s thought that filming has not yet started in Australia and further casting has yet to be announced.

It seems like it will be worth the wait!
