On June 15, 2022, Prince William visited St. George's Park National Football Centre where he met with England's football team ahead of the Euros.
While meeting the players, the Duke of Cambridge received a gift on behalf of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis as they received an adorable treat from England's Euro team in the form of personalized football shirts.
After receiving this adorable present for his children, the Prince told the players, "Charlotte wanted me to tell you she's really good in goal." The Prince added that his daughter was aware he was meeting the team and wanted to ensure that he let them know she was a capable goalie.
The Duke said, "She said, ‘Please can you tell them that,' and I said ‘OK I'll tell them’." He then added that the Princess was, “a budding star for the future!"
Prince William has previously spoken about his children's love of football and how Charlotte is a keen goalkeeper. In an interview with People (opens in new tab), Olivia Hancock, a young activist who promotes gender equality in football, revealed that she spoke to Prince William about his daughter's love of football, and how he encourages his children to play nicely when she visited him at Kensington Palace.
"He said, ‘When George and Charlotte play football, George gets Charlotte to go in goal because he says he is better.’ But Prince William says to him, ‘Charlotte could be as good as you, George, so give her the same chances,'" Olivia recalled.
"I think that was really good as it shows Prince William is standing up for equality as well. He is doing something for women in sport," said the activist.
It seems that Prince George making his sister stand in goal for years has actually paid off as the young royal is a competent player and now loves goalkeeping.
