The royal couple posted a video of people around the world asking in their language to ‘give the earth a shot,’ and get involved with the Earthshot Prize. The caption read, “The world has a great capacity to innovate and persevere to tackle our biggest challenges. This #EarthDay, let’s join together to Give the Earth a Shot.”
The Earthshot prize will be awarded to five different people every year who make a significant effort to achieve environmental change in one of the five major categories. The website states, “Inspired by President Kennedy’s ‘Moonshot’, we’re focusing on five ‘Earthshot’ goals: oceans, air pollution, nature, climate and waste. Starting this autumn, we will award the Earthshot Prize to five winners, one per Earthshot, whose ideas make the most progress towards these goals.”

The royals continued to say in the post, “Members of our @EarthshotPrize Council have signed an open letter calling on the world to channel the same spirit of innovation and possibility from the fight against COVID to our greatest challenge: repairing our planet.”
The letter encouraged people to find the same ‘spirit of innovation’ that has been present throughout the Pandemic and apply this energy to restoring our planet. The letter said, “we must be inspired by the ingenuity and determination of the past year. We must transform our relationship with our planet, learning from those already living in harmony with nature and recognizing that we all have a part to play. A better future is possible.”
Fans of the royal couple supported this post and appreciated the royal's commitment to environmental change. One fan said, "What a lovely post to start this glorious day! Love to all!!" Another fan said, "This is a wonderful incentive for all the world to get behind."
Other celebrities have followed the royal couple's example and also signed this open letter. Signatories include actress Cate Blanchett, environmentalist David Attenborough and singer Shakira.
