Meghan Markle has officially thrown the Royal Family's dress code out the window, wearing a comfy outfit and minimal makeup to Lilibet Diana's first birthday party during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex hosted "a casual, intimate backyard picnic at Frogmore Cottage" on Saturday, 4 June, to celebrate their second child turning one and enjoy a long-overdue reunion with their UK family and friends.
The couple stayed at the Windsor residence during their whirlwind trip to England in honor of Her Majesty's 70-year-long reign, more than two years after their high-profile withdrawal as senior royals and emigration to North America.
The outdoor event wasn't open to the public, taking place in the privacy of the ten-bedroom mansion at the same time as Prince William and Kate Middleton's trip to Cardiff. It did, however, give royal fans their first pictures of Lilibet Diana, as well as one surprisingly casual snap of her doting mother.
Misan Harriman, who captured the adorable portrait of the Sussexes' daughter, also shared a photo of Meghan Markle looking notably different from her usual glam self at the Berkshire garden party.
It was such a privilege to celebrate the 1st birthday of Lilibet with my family and hers! Joy and face painting all around ❤️🎂🎉 pic.twitter.com/bg3RY6MOEuJune 6, 2022
In the black-and-white image, the Duchess is wearing a long-sleeved sweater and a pair of loose, pin-striped pants that, if you look closely, appear to have a small stain on their left leg. Her straight, dark hair is worn down and she's ditched the heavy coverage foundation, letting her signature freckles breathe freely for the informal occasion. In her arms, she's holding baby Lilibet, who's dressed in a dark-colored cardigan and nibbling on what appears to be a rice cake. Misan's wife, Camilla Holmstroem, and their two young daughters, are also in the shot.
The laid-back look is a far cry from Meghan's chic white dress and Snowflake earrings, which she wore at the Queen's Service of Thanksgiving on Friday.
By the looks of Misan and Camilla's kids, Meghan's casual outfit was likely a very deliberate choice. The sweet girls are wearing masks of face paint, suggesting the entertainment at the party wasn't exactly suitable for fancy evening gowns. Their mother is also dressed casually, wearing a flowing, striped frock with puffed sleeves and a high neck.
