In 2011, Ellie Goulding was one of the stars who sang at Kate Middleton and Prince William's wedding. It was reported that the couple asked Ellie to sing because they loved listening to her album during the early stages of their relationship. The star performed at the evening reception that was hosted by Prince Charles in one of the ballrooms at Buckingham Palace.
At the time, the star admitted she was 'overwhelmed' by such an honor so early on in her singing career. According to Elle (opens in new tab), the singer told Star magazine, "It was an amazing honour to be asked and it’s something I will never forget. I was nervous and overwhelmed. But it was just a fun night, a really great atmosphere. Afterwards, I didn’t believe that I’d actually done it."
The star revealed that she met the Prince years before the wedding. "I met William at a festival about a year ago, and they asked me to perform months prior to the wedding," revealed the star. "So I knew about it for a while, but couldn’t tell anybody!"
Ellie is also close friends with Princess Eugenie. The pair attended one another's weddings, and have been on holiday together, and there were even rumors that Ellie dated Eugenie's cousin, Prince Harry.

Despite these sweet royal connections, when explaining why she was so honored to be a part of the Earthshor Prize ceremony, Ellie focused on the environmental importance of the prize created by the Prince of Wales.
"I am a big supporter of the Prince of Wales’ passion for the environment and share in The Earthshot Prize’s mission to protect and restore our planet," said Ellie in a statement on the Earthshot website (opens in new tab). "I am particularly excited for viewers around the world to learn about the innovative solutions presented by this year’s cohort of Finalists."
