Harry and Meghan have turned down Prince Charles' offer to stay with him at Balmoral during their UK visit, according to royal insiders.

  • Harry and Meghan are 'always welcome' to stay with Prince Charles, according to an insider.
  • But the couple turned down his invitation to stay with him as they spend time in the UK this week.
  • This follows royal news that Kate Middleton has been spotted driving in Windsor after the Cambridges' 'no frills' move.

Prince Charles has extended an open invitation to Prince Harry and Meghan, despite her saying their relationship was 'lost'.

A royal insider explained how Prince Charles thought it might be a good opportunity to build bridges, saying, “He hasn’t wavered, despite the attacks, which seem to be coming with increased vigour.

“The Prince of Wales reiterated his invitation for Harry and Meghan, and the whole family if they wished, to come and stay with him this summer while he is at his home on the Balmoral estate. He thought it might be a good opportunity for everyone to take stock and relax, but the invitation was declined.”

Last week, Meghan suggested that Harry's relationship with his father was irreparable. She told The Cut magazine: “Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process’. That’s his decision.”

Friend of the couple and author of their biography, Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie added, "I understand that Prince Harry is referring to Meghan’s loss of her own father, and Meghan is saying she doesn’t want Harry to lose his.”

Harry and Meghan, who are in the UK for the first time since the Queen's platinum Jubilee, will visit Manchester on Monday for the One Young World summit, an event which brings together young leaders from more than 190 countries.

They will then head to Germany for the Invictus Games One Year To Go event on Tuesday, before returning to the UK for the WellChild Awards in London on Thursday. Meghan and Harry are thought to be staying at their former residence, Frogmore Cottage, during their stay.

A spokesperson said last month, "Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to visit with several charities close to their hearts in early September."

The royal couple made a move stateside last year, and now Meghan and Harry live in a  $14 million Santa Barbara mansion, after stepping down as senior royals.
