The Grenadier Guards are lobbying for the Duchess of Cambridge to replace Prince Andrew and become the first woman appointed Colonel in the regiment’s 366-year history.

Kate Middleton is the royal that the Grenadier Guards most want to replace Prince Andrew as their colonel, according to The Times.

The Duke of York has been Colonel of the Grenadier Guards since 2017. He is the ninth member of the royal family to take on the role, following in the footsteps of Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Although Prince Andrew confirmed he was stepping back from the royal spotlight in 2019, he retained all his royal patronages and titles.

Fast forward three years and last week the Queen confirmed that Prince Andrew has now been stripped of his military honors and his HRH title following the news that Prince Andrew is set to face a civil trial over sex abuse allegations. Meaning there is room for a tenth royal to step into the role.

And, according to The Times, the Grenadier Guards are lobbying for it to be The Duchess of Cambridge.

An insider from the Grenadier Guards told the publication, “From straw polling through the ranks, they would all love it to be Kate.

“We all admire the way she has fitted in and behaved, she never seems to put a foot wrong.”

She would be the first female appointed colonel in the regiment’s 366-year history.

The news comes after the Duke of York's bid to have Virginia Giuffre’s civil case against him scrapped was denied, meaning he is set to face trial.
