I admit, I'm choosy when it comes to trainers. For a long time, I really only kept buying and wearing adidas Stan Smiths on repeat because I knew they were comfortable and worked with everything. I got fed up with new trainers that would randomly rub my heel or not quite work with different cuts of denim.

More recently, I've moved away from my best white trainers - in spite of an extensive collection - instead opting for colourful styles or shoes like ballet flats and Mary Janes. But the Skechers D'Lites made me remember exactly why white trainers are one of the most practical, versatile shoes you can buy.

These are a chunky, sporty style that has a Noughties feel to them, and I threw them in at the deep end on the first wear by taking them for a long dog walk across everything from concrete pavements to woodland. First things first, the sole is incredibly bouncy and cushioned. They quite literally gave a spring in my step, and several thousand steps later, my feet didn't feel remotely achy.

Skechers D'Lites: comfort & support

I don't have any specific issues like bunions, arthritis or plantar fasciitis, but I can immediately feel the difference between the Air-Cooled Memory Foam insole and all my other shoes. The slip-in feature is something that comes up time and time again when we talk about Skechers trainers here at woman&home, and honestly, it's something I'll never stop raving about.

Being able to slip your feet in and out of these trainers, as easily as you would a pair of flip-flops or Birkenstock clogs, is genius. Especially since they don't look like slip-on trainers - they have laces as usual, and they don't appear any wider than the rest of your trainers.

Once they're on, they're not heavy at all. There's padding in the heel (an area where I so often get blisters) which removes this as a pressure point, and the toe box is wide enough that there's plenty of room for my foot and a fairly thick trainer sock, too.

Skechers D'Lites: Style

If you're used to canvas plimsolls like Supergas or low-profile trainers like adidas Sambas, these are certainly going to feel chunky when you first try them. They can take some getting used to, but chunky trainers really do work with anything and everything; if you prefer a sleek and minimalist trainer, these might not be for you.

I love the subtle S logo on the D'Lites. It gives them that recognisable Skechers look without making the branding feel too prominent. I also appreciate that they don't feel overly technical - they have a fashion edge for sure.

One thing I wasn't expecting was how easy the D'Lites are to style. I've previously been drawn to slimmer trainers, and assumed that the chunky silhouette would limit what I could wear them with, but quite the opposite is true. The white colour feels fresh and wearable, while the chunky sole adds interest to simpler outfits.

I've worn them with wide-leg and barrel-leg jeans, and I like how they balance looser denim shapes. Saying that, they're the perfect trainers to wear with leggings, too.

Skechers D'Lites: Cleaning & care

Despite the white colourway looking like something I'd be nervous to wear on a muddy dog walk, they've proved to be surprisingly practical. When I first took the D'Lites out for a spin, the weather was much wetter than I'd imagined, and I returned home with my box-fresh trainers covered in grass. This easily wiped off, and they looked as good as new.

The grip was great on wet pavements, and they felt completely secure on my feet, despite being slip-ins.

Skechers D'Lites: Verdict

The Skechers D'Lites have quickly become an everyday go-to, which, for someone as fussy about trainers as me, is probably the best endorsement I can give. They needed no breaking in, and I haven't had so much as a second of discomfort. They're chunky trainers, but they're surprisingly easy to wear, and I've found they work with far more of my wardrobe than expected. The cushioned sole is incredibly comfortable and flexible, and you can immediately notice the difference when you switch to a less supportive shoe.

The biggest selling point has to be the slip-on feature. There's no faffing with laces when you're rushing out of the door in the morning, and I can wear them for long days on my feet with no issues.

You'll love these if you want an everyday trainer you can walk, commute and travel in, and wear with everything from jeans to dresses. If comfort is your priority but you don't want to compromise on style, these Skechers trainers are well worth considering - especially while there are some amazing offers up for grabs on Amazon Prime Big Deal Days.
