There's been an influx of autumn staples arriving on the high street recently and, while our eyes are on the M&S Autograph autumn 2026 collection, Rachel Stevens has brought some stunning new Zara pieces to our attention.

From the store’s fitting rooms, she showed off a number of their new-in tops, including the contrast check shirt, which brings an elevated take on the western trend with its cuffed sleeves and plaid print. She also tried the striped shirt, which features orange, burgundy and blue stripes to create a bold colour palette. And the ZW Collection fluid ruffled shirt she showed off immediately caught the eye as a must-have for creating date night outfits.

But alongside the comfy, elasticated Zara check trousers with turn-up hem, it was the two jacquard jackets Rachel picked out that really set the sophisticated tone of her picks from the brand. The multicoloured ZW Collection jacquard jacket and sleeker, tonal ZW Collection short jacquard jacket could easily be mistaken for designer pieces, and Rachel made them feel incredibly wearable, as she styled them with a simple pair of jeans.

Rachel styled nearly everything she picked out with some light blue, wide-leg jeans. Pairing an oversized shirt with a pair of baggier, wide-leg jeans doesn’t always feel like the most flattering choice when it comes to autumn outfit ideas, but as we enter a season where comfort and cosiness are paramount, the relaxed, voluminous silhouette of this duo can feel modern and effortless – and it can even work for smarter dress codes, too.

As Rachel shows, there are different avenues you can go down when styling an oversized shirt with jeans. Her checked shirt gives a more casual feel thanks to the worn, red hue and western-inspired checked print, while the high collar, neat stripes and cuffed sleeves of her striped shirt feel more appropriate for smart casual outfit ideas. If you try the look but feel it swallows your frame, utilise the classic French tuck to anchor the waistline and bring in some balance.

While oversized shirts are quickly becoming a staple this season, autumn jackets are taking a different turn. While we need to keep practicality in mind when trying on the best autumn jackets, with styles like the best trench coats allowing for coverage and easy layering, the cropped, fitted structure of the jacquard jackets Rachel tried on at Zara is quickly becoming one of the standout autumn/winter fashion trends for 2026.
