Around this time of year, I begin to assess every element of my wardrobe, and unfortunately for my bank account, that includes footwear. I'm on the hunt for the most comfortable trainers that feel on-trend but stylish, and I was reminded of one of Jennifer Lawrence's go-to choices – Puma Speedcats.

An archival outfit from J Law has sold me on these trainers for the colder weather ahead. In 2024, she was spotted in a cosy long coat, a vivid red scarf and navy wide-leg trousers finished with soft brown Puma Speedcats. The streamlined silhouette was originally designed in 1999 to mimic Formula 1 racing boots, and soon after the release, they became one of Puma's bestselling styles in the early 00s.

Not only do they have a vintage appeal, but the round toe and streamlined silhouette are something that we're seeing much more of in this year's trainer trends. The striped detailing will add a sporty finishing touch to just about any autumn outfit idea.

If you're going to turn to anyone for trainer inspiration, Jennifer Lawrence has to be one of the best muses. She's been spotted wearing Puma Speedcats several times over the last few years, in varying colours, confirming that this design is well worth investing in.

They're suprisingly easy to work into your existing wardrobe. Their slimline shape looks particularly chic with wide-leg trousers or relaxed denim, whilst the sporty detailling will add a casual feel to tailoring. So if you're looking for a new pair of trainers this autumn they should be a top contender.
