Gwyneth Paltrow just convinced me to try Bermuda shorts – they're the chic alternative to jeans I need now

Being petite, I never thought Bermuda shorts would suit me - until now

Bermuda shorts have been a huge spring/summer fashion trend for 2026, but as I'm only 5”2, it’s a style staple I hadn’t considered before. I worried the longer length and slouchy fit would be too much for my shorter frame, but after seeing Gwyneth Paltrow’s polished take on the look, I’m suddenly wanting to give this warm-weather look a go.

The star shared a snap on her Instagram last week showing off a simple yet chic combination of a fine-knit white cardigan layered over a classic black T-shirt, which she teamed with some crisp white Bermuda shorts from her own fashion range, Gwyn. It was an understated and relaxed ensemble, but her fitted tops and timeless colour choices had a grown-up feel that I really loved.

If, like me, you've been missing your white jeans outfits due to the never-ending high temperatures, then a pair of knee-skimming shorts like Gwyneth’s will make a stylish alternative for summer, and they will act as a great base for a wide range of tops. You have plenty of affordable options when it comes to recreating her look too, and I've rounded up some of the very best below.

Shop the Look

When it comes to building outfits around your Bermudas, simply style them like you would with your usual jeans - pretty much any top will work nicely. One thing to keep in mind is that longer-length shorts often have a wider and slouchier fit, so it may be best to stick to fitted or cropped-length tops for the neatest and most defined silhouette. If you like a relaxed or low-key aesthetic though, you can easily buddy your shorts up with an oversized white shirt or a sweatshirt - just try tucking in at the front to create a little more shape.

The crisp white colour is also the perfect neutral for pretty much any tone and print in your summer capsule wardrobe. Try wearing your shorts with a matching top like the actress for a classic colour-drenched effect, with a Breton stripe jumper for a nautical spin, or create a bold monochrome vibe with a silky black cami as a fresh take on date night outfits.

I have avoided knee-skimming shorts for a long time as I worried about the length being too much for my shorter frame, but it turns out that Bermudas really don't need to be oversized, grungy or low-waisted, and can actually look very smart when styled well. Gwyneth has totally inspired me to try a pair, and I feel like they will fast become my summer go-to.
