The weather is starting to cool, so it’s almost time to hang up our summer dresses and skirts and switch back to our old faithful trousers and jeans. But just because autumn is approaching doesn’t mean we have to say goodbye to bright and cheerful shades too – and Charlotte Hawkins just proved it with her colour-pop co-ord.

She often opts for a fitted dress or tailored suit in a primary colour, which creates a polished-yet-playful aesthetic. The latest ensemble we've fallen for is this gorgeous royal blue waistcoat and trouser set by Karen Millen, which she finished with a pair of pointed heels in the same tone. The colour-drenched effect worked beautifully, and it’s a look I'm bookmarking as I start to plan autumn outfit ideas – it’ll be ideal for a busy day at the office, or as a fresh take on date night dressing.

This high street set is officially at the top of our new season shopping list, and you can find it available to buy, along with some similarly bold pairings below.

Shop Charlotte's look

Charlotte's co-ord is ideal for injecting some colour into your autumn capsule wardrobe, but the classic blue tone is still very wearable for anybody feeling a little shy about shouty shades.

A matching set makes a lot of fashion sense too, as you can wear the pieces together for a full, trend-ticking look, and can then get plenty of extra wardrobe mileage out of them by teaming each half with other separates. Try adding your waistcoat to fresh denim as part of your white jeans outfits, or for smartening up a midi skirt for a day at the office. Blue trousers will make a chic base for an endless amount of tops too - the colourful hue will sit well with a slogan T-shirt, an oversized white shirt or your new favourite cardigan.

We might be feeling sad to pack away our most comfortable sandals and maxi dresses soon, but after seeing Charlotte's chic trouser set, autumn really can't come around fast enough!
