As the weather is starting to cool, I've been busy planning my autumn outfits, and after seeing Catherine Zeta-Jones’ fresh take on the classic pencil skirt, it's now firmly at the top of my new season shopping list.

The actress was spotted in London earlier this week, wearing a chic combination of a Rebecca Vallance pussybow blouse and a pencil skirt by the same Australian designer, which is a favourite of Zara Tindall's. Catherine layered a full-length black coat on top and finished the look with some off-white court shoes. The whole outfit was gorgeous, but it was the skirt that really caught my attention, as the longer length and delicate lace trim gave the piece an elegant upgrade for 2026.

Polished, office-ready pieces are big news right now, as are romantic fabrics and detailing, so Catherine’s lacy skirt managed to tick off two major autumn/winter trends at once, and it's a piece that will work right now and for years to come.

The star wore court shoes with her outfit, but there is no reason to avoid wearing flats with a fitted midi skirt. Instead, opt for simple ballet flats or a neat pair of your most comfortable trainers for the chicest feel.

I hadn't considered a pencil skirt for autumn, but Catherine's classic styling and lace-trimmed piece really wowed me. I'll race you to the shops...
