Trooping the Colour canceled this year, the palace confirms
The Queen's birthday parade will not go ahead as planned for 2021

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Trooping the Colour, which is the Queen's official birthday celebration, will not go ahead this year, despite hopes that the annual parade would happen in 2021.
- The Queen's official birthday parade will not take place in June 2021, a statement from the Palace has confirmed.
- Proceedings are likely to take place virtually, in the same format as the 2020 Trooping the Colour celebration.

The statement from the palace read, 'Following consultation with government and other relevant parties it has been agreed that The Queen's Official Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour, will not go ahead this year in its traditional form in central London.
'Options for an alternative Parade, in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle, are being considered.'
This must be disappointing news for her majesty, who must enjoy the annual event, surrounded by all her family. It had already been reported, however, that the Queen's son Prince Andrew would not be in attendance for Trooping the Colour 2021.
The statement from Buckingham Palace also confirmed another cancellation for 2021. It read, 'The annual Garter service, usually held in June, will not take place this year.'
The British Army has also tweeted about the matter, writing today, 'Following consultation with Government and other relevant parties it has been agreed that The Queen’s Official Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour, will not go ahead this year in its traditional form in central London.'

It's likely the event will take the same format as last year where members of the royal family were not in attendance. However the proceedings were aired on TV, so the nation could still tune in for the event.
