Prince Charles and Princess Anne shared an adorable interest as children that ensured they had a close bond from a young age. The interest in question, growing tomatoes, has blossomed into a mutual love of all things horticultural.

Prince Charles and Princess Anne were avid gardeners from a young age. Despite the hoards of staff tasked with growing edible gardens on royal estates like Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace—the little royals chose to grow their own.
The Prince of Wales previously revealed their cute activity during a BBC Radio 4 interview with poet laureate Simon Armitage, back in August 2021.
"My sister and I had a little vegetable patch in the back of some border somewhere,” he said. “We had great fun trying to grow tomatoes rather unsuccessfully and things like that.”
Throughout their early experimentations with all things botanical, they were guided by a kind gentleman who worked for the Royal Family. Prince Charles shared a childhood memory of his 'splendid' mentor during the interview.
"There was a wonderful head gardener at Buckingham Palace, he was called Mr. Nutbeam, rather splendidly," Charles said. “He was splendid, and helped us a bit, my sister and I, with the little garden we had.”
Princess Anne's home, Gatcombe Park, reflects her ongoing adoration of gardening, as does Prince Charles' beloved Highgrove House. However, green fingers aside, the royal siblings also share a love of something everybody enjoys—laughter!
Who could forget when Princess Anne was mistaken for Prince Charles and her reaction was excellent? Or the countless examples of Prince Charles' childish giggling during official engagements?
