The Queen's speech today had a special nod towards Prince Philip.

Queen Elizabeth II made her annual speech today, and, while it may be a very different Christmas for many, urged listeners to find hope and joy even in the most difficult of circumstances.

Addressing the nation from Windsor Castle, which is an unusual Christmas location for the Monarch, as she and Philip usually spend Christmas Day at Sandringham, the Queen praised the "quiet, indomitable spirit" of the British public, during these dark days.

Queen Elizabeth looked radiant in a bright purple jumper, with a photograph of Philip placed next to her for the duration of the speech.

Reportedly taken from Elizabeth's private collection, the photograph shows Prince Philip looking candidly into the distance, wearing a light blue collared jacket.

It's been an unusual Christmas for the Queen and Philip, who have spent the festive season at Windsor Castle for the first time in more than 30 years.

During the annual speech, the Queen praised the importance of International Nurses Day and Florence Nightingale, who "shone a light of hope across the world," commenting that modern-day nurses do the same, especially during the trying conditions of Covid-19.

"Even on the darkest night, there is hope," commented the Queen, urging us all to find the light in the most difficult circumstances.

She continued, "In the United Kingdom and around the world, people have risen magnificently to the challenges of the year, and I am so proud and moved by this quiet, indomitable spirit.

"To our young people in particular I say thank you for the part you have played."
