See Countess of Wessex in royal first as she runs London Marathon for poignant reason

Sophie, Countess of Wessex took part in a royal first over the weekend as she ran in the London Marathon.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex was seen taking part in a royal first this past weekend, as she joined London Marathon runners in the capital on Sunday.

During her run, the countess joined Team Mencap of learning disability charity Mencap, for which she is the royal patron.

Sharing a video of Countess Sophie running in the rain as she supported the team in person, the Royal Family Instagram page wrote, ‘Today The Countess of Wessex was honoured to join Tomas for the first part of his London Marathon 2020 route, in support of @mencap.

‘The Countess, who has been Patron of @mencap since 2004, ran 1.5 miles alongside Tomas to represent the 1.5 million people in the UK with a learning disability,’ they continued’.

Tomas, a runner with a learning disability supported by @mencap, today took on the challenge of completing his first-ever marathon. In the words of The Countess, “Tomas has shown what people with a learning disability can achieve with the right support. He is an inspiration!”

‘🏅A huge congratulations to Tomas, the 312 @mencap runners and all other London Marathon runners who are completing their 26.2 miles challenge today.’

Mencap also shared a lovely photo of Countess Sophie joining Tomas on his run over on their Instagram page, writing, ‘“Thank you to Her Royal Highness for supporting me to run my first ever marathon. I loved every minute of running the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon.”
