Princess Diana’s brother Earl Spencer has given royal fans a unique insight into how he helps to keep her memory alive as he revealed touching details about her grave. Charles Spencer’s new comments come ahead of what would have been the late Princess of Wales’ milestone 60th birthday on July 1st. On this poignant occasion, her sons Prince William and Prince Harry are set to reunite to unveil a memorial statue of their mother.
The tragic death of Princess Diana is something both of her sons have discussed throughout their lives, with Prince Harry recently opening up even further in his new Apple TV+ docuseries with Oprah Winfrey, The Me You Can’t See. Here, the Duke of Sussex shared a harrowing memory that comes to mind whenever he thinks of Princess Diana.
Earlier this year, his uncle Earl Spencer has also opened up on the intense media attention his sister received, as he shared the heartbreaking backstory behind a resurfaced photo of Diana. Now he has powerfully spoken out about his connection to her final resting place as he looks ahead to such a poignant date for all who knew and loved her.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Earl Spencer was asked by hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley about the upcoming anniversary. Charles then reflected upon a treasured Spencer family memory of the day Princess Diana was born.
"I remember my father always used to talk about the day Diana was born actually, the 1st July 1961,” Earl Spencer began. “[A]nd it was a sweltering hot day and this wonderful daughter appeared and it's so funny to be of an age now where your slightly older sister is 60 but yes, it will be an emotional day but, you know, I think it will be a tribute to a much missed and much loved sister, mother".
Earl Spencer was then asked about his late sister’s final resting place, at his beautiful Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire and whether he often visits to pay his respects. And it seems Charles regularly honors Princess Diana, as the Earl went on to describe a number of special occasions throughout the year that he makes an extra special effort to celebrate her on.

"I do [visit], and every landmark day, such as birthday, or Mother's Day I always take flowers, of course, and I do go a lot and take the children over,” the proud father-of-seven declared. "It's an oasis of calm, actually. It's a lovely place to go."
It’s not yet known whether Earl Spencer or any of the wider Spencer family will be joining his royal nephews Prince William and Prince Harry on July 1st for the memorial statue unveiling.
However, regardless of whether or not Earl Spencer is in attendance, it seems likely that he will pay tribute to Princess Diana in his own special way at her final resting place.
