How Prince Harry and Prince William are remembering Diana on the 21st anniversary of her death

It appears that Princes Harry and William will be marking the 21st anniversary of their mother, Princess Diana's death, in private today, after the palace confirmed that there were no official engagements planned to commemorate the day.

Last year, the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge visited the Sunken Garden in Kensington Palace - which had been redesigned as the White Garden, in memory of their beloved mother.

But a palace spokesperson told the Express that this year, "There is no official engagement planned and we don’t have a comment on what the family would be doing.”

As such, it's likely that the Princes will be spending the day privately - perhaps with their wives, the Duchess of Sussex, and the Duchess of Cambridge. And for Prince William, he may well also be spending he day with his three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Last year, the significant 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death was passed in a series of engagements and documentaries. And for the first time, the Princes opened up about the devastating impact of the loss of their mother.

In one ITV documentary, Diana: Her Life and Legacy, Prince William reflected on walking behind his mother's coffin on the way to her funeral.

He said, "It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, that walk. I felt like she was almost walking along beside us, to get us through it."

Prince Harry also revealed that he and his brother were still suffering intense grief after their loss, 20 years on.

He confessed, “There’s, you know, there’s a lot of — there’s a lot of grief that still needs to be let out,"

In a special tribute to his late mother, he also said, “There’s not a day that William and I don’t wish that she was still around. We wonder what kind of a mother she would be now, and what kind of a public role she would have, and what a difference she would be making.”

Harry and William also commissioned a statue of their mother in her memory, which, when finished, will sit in Kensington Palace, her final home.

On the 21st anniversary of her passing in Paris, various charities that she was involved with have shared special tributes to the much-loved Princess.

The Terrence Higgins Trust, which works with HIV and AIDs patients, paid homage to the groundbreaking work Diana did to reduce stigma around the topic.

They wrote, 'Today marks 21 years since the tragic loss of Princess Diana. She did so much to challenge perceptions of HIV and tackle stigma through her kindness and compassion, her hugs and hand holding.

'She stepped up when very few others did. She is dearly missed but her legacy lives on.'

The Diana Award, which was created to recognise young people in Diana's honour, also shared a message on the anniversary of her death today.

Their CEO said, 'On the 21st anniversary of Princess Diana’s death I ask that we all take a little time today to consider how we can help the young trailblazers that are our future.'
