The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have issued an emotional statement following the devastating news of an explosion in Pakistan.
- The tragedy happened shortly after the royal duo returned from their royal tour to the country.
- Responding to the sad news that 74 people died, the Cambridges said they ‘horrified’ and ‘deeply saddened’.
- This follows royal news that the pair recently had a very emotional week due to a big romantic milestone.
The Duke and Duchess visited Pakistan last month, on a four day trip that took them around the country.
After their return, the couple were understandably saddened by the news that a train fire in the south of Punjab Province, near the town of Rahim Yar Khan, killed 74 people, and sent a message of condolence to the President of Pakistan.
The statement read, ‘Having just returned from visiting Pakistan, we were horrified and deeply saddened to hear about the tragic fire on the Tezgam train near Rahim Yar Khan.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with all the people and families affected by this heart-breaking disaster.’
Many royal fans joined the couple in sending their condolences to the people of Pakistan, with one saying, ‘We are all devastated by the news of the horrific and tragic train fire and loss of life associated. To all families and friends who have lost loved ones may they RIP for eternity.’
Another wrote, ‘Wonderful to see them sharing a message of support too. It's such a heartbreaking incident!’
A third added, ‘Heartbreaking news, sending good wishes and prayers to all the people affected.’
During their trip to the country, Duchess Catherine have her first TV interview since joining the royal family, and gushed about Pakistan.
She said, "It's been fantastic, we've seen a lot of Pakistan, a huge variety, it's amazing seeing some of the geography but then to see some of the community activities like this has been really special."
