Prince Charles jokes about rumors he’ll bypass being king during speech
Will Charles be king? Prince Charles jokes about the ongoing belief that his son Prince William will be the next monarch
Prince Charles joked about the ongoing rumors that he'll abdicate in favor of his son Prince William, during his speech. The Prince threw out some of his most outrageous one-liners ever in his appearance at the Prince's Trust Awards Trophy Ceremony.
- Prince Charles made the awkward joke while telling an unexpected anecdote about an iconic store.
- The royal showed his sense of humor by joking about all of that speculation.
- In other royal news, Prince William and Kate Middleton's ‘gentle PDA’ photos elevate couple to ‘relationship goals’
Prince Charles made the joke during his speech at the Prince's Trust Awards Trophy Ceremony in St James Palace. The Prince's Trust is a charity that aims to help young people into jobs, education, and training—with free courses and support.
The heir to the British throne was thanking various sponsors of the event and shared a story about a trip he made to a local TJ Maxx (TK Maxx in the UK) store.
The Prince described how, as he was having a private tour, swathes of shoppers waited outside so they could get their shopping done. The story was heard by guests including actor Richard E. Grant and Vogue UK's editor-in-chief Edward Enninful.
He said, "I remember there were an enormous number of people who were trying to get in, as they were waiting for me to get out!" He then added, with perfect comedic timing, "Story of my life..."

Although this joke could be deemed a bit insensitive as it's in the wake of the Queen spending a night in hospital, only days after the Queen’s health worried royal fans as ‘seasonal cold’ ends her Northern Ireland trip.
However, it's becoming increasingly evident that the members of the Royal Family, her majesty included, have a pretty wicked sense of humor. The Queen herself is known to have a dry wit.

A prime example was when Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told her that she was, "quite the hit" at the G7 in June 2021. He told her, "Everyone was talking about you at dinner the next night"
The Queen responded quick as a whip, "Oh lord, were they really?"
Another prime example of the family's wit is the time Princess Anne was mistaken for Prince Charles and her reaction was excellent.
Although the speculation continues about who'll be the head of the firm next, it's good to see that they're able to joke about it all!
