Every year, the NAACP Image Awards take place to honor people of color in the performing arts. Although the 2021 event might not have been what we're accustomed to, the virtual celebration was still memorable thanks to amazing looks, exciting wins, and pride for one's ethnicity.
Some of our favorite celebrities took home well-deserved titles, including Regé-Jean Page for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, Issa Rae for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, Viola Davis for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, Anthony Anderson for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series and Chadwick Boseman for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture (posthumous). At a time when the world is facing extreme prejudice and violence against ethnic groups—Sandra Oh and Bowen Yang are just two examples of celebrities speaking out against Asian hate—it's important to express kindness, acceptance, and of course, pride for your background—just like Regé-Jean Page did when he accepted his win for his role in the much-beloved Bridgerton series.
"It is the highest honor to represent us in the fullness of our beauty, of our glamour, of our splendor, of our royalty, of our romance, of our love," he said. "It is the highest honor to represent that and to represent the people I do represent, and I will do my absolute to be worthy of that."
