Experts say this £12.99 champagne is worth twice its bargain price tag

The purse-friendly plonk scored highly in a Christmas taste test.

The best beauty advent calendars 2020 are flying off the shelves, the Black Friday deals have already started rolling in and now the best champagne of 2020 has been crowned. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here.

The Good Housekeeping Institute has carried out its annual Christmas test taste and there's one surprise competitor in the champagne category that we're particularly looking forward to stocking up on ahead of the festive season. Not least because it's just £12.99!

Of the 11 supermarket own-label champagnes tested, Waitrose's Blanc de Noirs Brut NV Champagne (£19.19 for 75cl) came out top, scoring 84/100 for its smooth and beautifully balanced bubbles. But it's the close runner-up that's really caught our attention.

Aldi's £12.99 Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut scored an impressive 81/100 in the taste test – and experts have valued it as almost twice its pocket-friendly price tag. Now that's an alcohol deal you don't want to miss.

The refreshing Aldi Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut is sure to go down a treat at Christmas. A guaranteed crowd-pleaser, this one has a fruity and floral taste with flavours of baked apple and elderflower. Did we mention it tastes twice as expensive as its price tag? The bargain bubbles were recently endorsed by TV personality and wine expert Jilly Goolden, who claimed the champagne was undervalued and should cost around £25. We'll definitely cheers to that. Something tells us that this one's going to be popular in the coming months, though. So we'd advise getting your order in while you can.VIEW NOW.

The gorgeous champagne – which has notes of apple, tropical fruit, vanilla and marmalade – is now 20% off at Waitrose. Reduced from £23.99 to £19.19, customers can save a great £4.80 on the bubbles from now until 3rd November. So there's never been a better incentive to stock up on your Christmas plonk a bit earlier this year.VIEW NOW.

With offerings from Sainsbury's and Ocado coming in third and fourth places, it's clear that we won't be without choice when it comes to snapping up the best champagne in time for Christmas 2020.
