Cara Delevingne has sent fashion critics everywhere into overdrive, after showing up to the Met Gala 2022 last night in a showstopping golden ensemble.
The 29-year-old model and actor turned heads at New York City's most famous fundraiser on Monday evening with her bold wardrobe choice—accessorized by that unapologetic British attitude we all know and love.
With a reputation for nearly always topping the list of the Met Gala's best looks (and occasionally, its worst), Cara arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a cropped red blazer and matching trousers by Dior Haute Couture—complete with a gold-trimmed black cane and satin, platform heels. She upped the wow factor by ditching the jacket to reveal her gold-painted boobs and gold pasties, in an ode to the event's widely-talked about 'Gilded Glamor' theme.
The spectacular outfit was polished off with soft blonde curls and glittery eye makeup for that effortless fusion of masculinity and feminity, making it one of the Met Gala 2022's most unforgettable ensembles.
Speaking to a reporter on the red carpet, Cara shared the inspiration behind the look.
"The Gilded age is very golden, I went with androgyny. I also did a little reveal of my boobs, but not the nipple though, because I still have to hide those, apparently," she explained.
The Carnival Row star reiterated the double standard between society's treatment of male and female chests while posing on the red carpet, shouting 'Free the nipple!' to photographers and cheekily sticking out her tongue.
Fashion fans have been quick to offer their thoughts on Cara's Met Gala 2022 outfit, with some praising the style icon for making a political statement with her skin-showing attire.
"Cara Delevingne is here to free the nipple #MetGala," one approving person tweeted.
"Love it, especially without the jacket," another person commented.
Not everyone was so approving of the Suicide Squad's star's circus-esque look though.
"She really just grabbed random clothes and thought it was an outfit... now because people do this ...it doesn't work with anything," one critic on Twitter wrote.
"I only like the pants and shoes, the rest 'eh'," another underwhelmed fan said.
As for our verdict, we're giving Cara's dazzling look a solid 10/10.
