why did abba split?
When ABBA last recorded a song together, back in 1982, according to Benny it was only intended to be a break. However, he explained on a TV appearance on the Lorraine show in 2017, per Digital Spy, that there were two massive reasons that the reunion has been delayed.
He said, "Things were happening in real life too, not just in working life. [Anni-Frid Lyngstad and I] got divorced, [Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog] got divorced. At first we still worked together though because we knew what we had."
Matters of the heart weren't the only reason for the break, as he and Björn received an offer too huge to turn down. After theatre producer Tim Rice approached them to make music for theatre, ABBA truly took the backseat.
Benny said, "We were on a break when Tim came along. He gave us these opportunities and afterward, we were like what's the point in going back because we like theatre so much?"
Abba—who married who and what age are they?
Agnetha is 71, Anni-Frid is 75, Björn is 76 and Benny is 74.
Before the band was even created, romance existed between its members. Sadly, before their split—these relationships had ended too.
Agnetha , the blonde lead singer, married Björn Ulvaeus in 1971. The couple welcomed two children, Linda in 1973 and Peter in 1978.
Sadly, the couple parted ways in 1979. Despite the difficulties of coping with divorce, Agnetha revealed that it was during this time that Benny and Björn wrote one of their most emotional songs, The Winner Takes It All.
Agnetha said in 2013, "It was fantastic to do that song because I could put in such feeling. It didn’t feel wrong. I didn’t mind sharing it with the public. It was a mixture of what I felt and what Björn felt, but also what Benny and Frida went through."
In 1978, Anni-Frid (Frida), the auburn-haired of the two, married Benny. The pair had been in a relationship since 1969 and both had two children each from previous relationships. The couple didn't have kids together and divorced a year after their bandmates.
When did abba win the Eurovision?
ABBA won the Eurovision songwriting contest (as it was known then) with Waterloo. The song sent them into superstardom and global success. The band flew straight to the top as music and fashion icons in bell bottoms and high-waisted jeans.
Speaking of that time, Agnetha previously said, "Fans would become really hysterical, banging on car doors. It was frightening."
To this day, they are considered the most successful Eurovision winners of all time.
When was the last time Abba released a song?
Their last album was The Visitors, in 1981. The only major single release from that album was One of Us and the m usic video gave all the '80s makeup and '80s style you could possibly imagine!
The song is a perfect example of the band's ability to create music with heartbreaking lyrics that still make you want to boogie.
The track found huge success across the globe and although it wasn't intended to be their last release for such a long time, the song proved a perfect pause after all the band had been through.
How much is Abba worth?
According to celebritynetworth.com, the group is worth $900million. Individually, the band members are thought to be worth between $202million and $302million.
The band has made most of its fortune via tours and performances over the decades, however, their wealth has also been furnished by their solo careers, marriages, films, and TV shows.
Who could forget Mamma Mia! The musical utilized the band's iconic tunes and since its inception, back in 1991, it's been a stand-out hit on both London's West End and New York City's Broadway too. The Mirror reports that they made $4.3million in royalties from the show alone and the film adaptation was the UK's highest-grossing film in 2008.
Both Agnetha and Anni-Frid went on to have very successful solo careers.
Anni-Frid also became a princess when she married Prince Heinrich Ruzzo Reuss von Plauen in 1992, but sadly he died of lymphoma in 1999 aged only 49. She's believed to have inherited his entire fortune which is alleged to have been $104million.
