Based on the series of novels by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton is set in Regency Era England and follows the story of the eldest daughter of the rich Bridgerton family, Daphne. Once arriving in society Daphne (Phoebe Dyvenor) is given scathing criticism by Lady Whistledown (narrated by Julie Andrews) who is a mysterious character with a gossip column that airs and exposes the scandals occurring within high society London.
Bridgerton is coming to Netflix on the 25th of December and looks to be the insatiable, scandalous drama we are craving.
Daphne meets a bachelor with a bad-boy reputation, Duke of Hasting (played by Rege - Jean Page.) Together they form a fake alliance to ward off Lady Whistledown’s remarks and their familiar pressures but soon they find themselves in a not-so fake situation.
Created by Chris Van Duse (Scandal) and produced by Shonda Rhime (Grey’s anatomy) leaves us in no doubt that this will be a scandalous, epic of drama and lustful affairs. The trailer alone is equipped with not only glamorous ball rooms and gowns but hits us with a tantalising dramatic score and the opening line of “All is fair in love and war.” It looks to be the perfect series to add intrigue and excitement to a Christmas afternoon!
Much like the Crown, it gives us a fascinating insight into the societal pressures of high society. It shows us the wealth and duty associated with titles of a time gone by, not to mention the thrill of tumultuous love affairs. The perfect series to escape the hum drum reality of working from home and the ever impending social distancing rules.
