All eyes could be on a significant detail during King Charles’ Christmas speech this year as he delivers his first festive address as monarch.

Whilst there are plenty of royal traditions that could be upheld, this Christmas will also be very different to previous celebrations as King Charles marks his first festive season as monarch. He and Queen Consort Camilla will be spending it at Sandringham where the late Queen Elizabeth regularly hosted Christmas. However, it’s been suggested that King Charles’ Christmas plans could be “up in the air” in other ways as the “younger generation” could look to “do their own thing”.

For the first time in his reign, King Charles will also deliver a Christmas speech and there’s a significant detail that could attract the attention of many…

It’s already been suggested that King Charles could make a “dignified power move” and give Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a “loving mention” in his speech. Though that’s not the only element that could indicate his bond with the Sussexes and how he’s chosen to move forward after the release of their recent Netflix series.

People often noted the choice of photos on display during Queen Elizabeth’s important addresses including her Christmas Day speech. In her festive message for 2021, she included a special Diamond wedding anniversary snap of her and Prince Philip - an iconic picture that paid tribute to him on the first Christmas since he passed away.

The year before featured plenty more royals such as Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children as well as the then-Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla. Two royals not included in the photo selection, however, were Prince Harry and Meghan.

Royal biographers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claimed in Finding Freedom that the Queen’s Christmas speech was the “final straw” for the Sussexes because of this. The book apparently suggested that the couple saw her decision as "yet another sign they needed to consider their own path”, though it was also put forward by some that the photos merely highlighted the royal line of succession.

And it’s clear fans also notice which photos are placed where as in September people commented on a sweet detail in King Charles’ office which was a photo of his parents. The same social media post also showcased how Queen Elizabeth often worked surrounded by different pictures.

With all eyes on who appears in the family photos on display, the ones chosen to feature in King Charles’ Christmas speech could be very significant. This address will air just weeks after Harry & Meghan dropped on Netflix with its shocking claims.

In King Charles’ first address he expressed his love for Prince Harry and Meghan “as they continue to build their lives overseas” in the face of speculation about a so-called rift. Now it’s possible that he could choose to display a picture of them, or perhaps mention them again, in his Christmas Day speech to dispel any further rumors about their bond following the Netflix series.

Whichever decision he makes, King Charles’ Christmas speech and his surroundings during it will likely attract the attention of many.
