Queen Letizia's black tuxedo blazer is the elegant autumn style that'll tempt you away from other jackets

The Queen of Spain just reminded us why black blazers are such a useful option and satin detailing makes them even more chic

If there's one staple anyone's autumn jacket collection needs it's a blazer and tailoring has had a luxurious update this season. Tuxedo-style blazers are everywhere and they're perfect for taking a simple outfit up a level for the evening or a special occasion.

We're still a few months away from party season, but you can never go wrong with a black blazer with an elevated twist like Queen Letizia's Pertegaz jacket. She wore this with the matching trousers to a reception on Day 1 of her and King Felipe's State Visit to Finland and it had satin lapels and fun feather detailing on the sleeves.

The combination worked so well because the rest of Letizia's look was so simple, but even if you're not a fan of the feathers, the other elements are well worth copying.

The colours and silhouettes of tuxedos for women vary, though contrasting fabric is always part of the design and evening elegance is a big autumn/winter fashion trend this year. Satin has a subtle sheen and makes blazers look more luxurious and smart, no matter what else you're wearing with them.

It's also not quite as in-your-face as a full velvet blazer for example - though I do love styling velvet as we edge closer towards the festive season. The Queen of Spain dressed head-to-toe in black for the reception for the Spanish community at the NH Grand Hansa and incorporating different materials is a clever way to ensure your monochrome outfits have definition and interest.

With a tuxedo-style blazer you get textural contrast within a single item and black jackets have extra versatility as they go with a huge range of other shades.

The smarter aesthetic of blazers makes them easy to dress up with a frock or tailored trousers and yet they are also chic with casual pieces like jeans or knitwear. A satin collar doesn't change this and there are so many different autumn outfit ideas that you could incorporate a jacket like Queen Letizia's into, perhaps with dark denim or even leather trousers.

In contrast, suede or denim jackets can sometimes feel too much or too relaxed for certain occasions, so an all-rounder is very useful. Her Majesty's Pertegaz jacket was single-breasted and sleek, helping to balance out the boldness of the feathery sleeves.

She leaned into this by styling it with tapered cigarette trousers and what looked to be a square-neck cami. Her shoes were her beloved Massimo Dutti leather slingbacks and she finished off the ensemble with a pair of hoop earrings.

Double-breasted blazers are also beautiful and bring even more structure to an outfit, so it just depends on which cut suits your signature style best. The Queen regularly wears both shapes and she's stepped out in this tuxedo blazer in autumn several times since 2019.

Her way of styling the jacket is pretty much identical every time other than the shoes and it just goes to show that although tuxedo blazers are a 2026 trend, they're also timeless enough to work year after year.
